The Italian Job – day 1

Brenner to Bolzano

From the Austrian/Italian border the route takes a general downward trend descend away from the Alps along the Brenner Pass. Although in Italy, the area has a distinctly German feel and German is the main language spoken in this area. The scenery is stunning and the majority of the route is along traffic free cycle paths. Bolzano is a wealthy and attractive city and the capital of the South Tyrol region.  (Description based on route notes from Peak Tours).

Route from Brenner to Bolzano (61 miles):

Elevation profile (ascent ~1300 feet as mainly downhill!):

After breakfast at the hotel in Munich, we set off by bus down through Austria (past Innsbruck) to the Brenner Pass. Then after checking bikes and first briefing we set off on a cycle path down through valley between the mountains. An easy start as we mainly descended down to Bolzano (Bozen). As the area and the food is quite Germanic and at dinner a few of us indulged in a taster rack of 6 beers!

A few videos of the route.
