Brentwood to St Ives
A scenic and undulating(!) day that goes through many picture postcard villages and past a number of ancient and interesting buildings. Sunday lunch is at The Cricketers, a pub run by Jamie Oliver’s parents, where the food is supposed to be delicious. After lunch there are a few more hills and then thankfully the route flattens out as it heads through Cambridge and then country lanes on the approach to the lovely little town of St Ives. (Description based on route notes from Peak Tours).
Route from Brentwood to St Ives (73 miles):
A great day’s cycling with Glen through the west side of Essex, briefly into Hertfordshire and then up through Cambridgeshire. Mainly rolling countryside and villages – the exception being a rather chaotic cycle through the centre of Cambridge in amongst all the cyclists and pedestrians out enjoying the Sunday afternoon sunshine. We had a good lunch at the Cricketers pub, a beer in the sunshine when we arrived in St Ives, and then 6 of us went out to an Italian restaurant where I had a large pizza!
Here are a few pictures: Glen (on left) and Fraser sitting at the Cricketers pub, then 3 of Cambridge and 5 of St Ives.
