St Flour to Mende
After an initial flat road away from St Flour a tough, hilly road takes the route to the Viaduc de Garabit and a descent to a scenic lake. After a nice ride by the lake there is a big climb and a fair number of ups and downs before lunch. The aftrenoon is characterised by rolling forested countryside with great hunks of stone left by the ice age through a number of small hamlets that time forgot. The day is finished with a long winding descent into the town of Mende which feels like a sudden distinct change from Northern France. (Description based on route notes from Peak Tours).
